Erik K. Strandberg; 47 years old of Zion, IL, formerly of Silver Lake, WI, passed away Wednesday January 11, 2012, after a courageous battle with cancer, at The Grove by the Lake, Zion, IL. He was born June 1, 1964 in Chicago, IL the son of Erik and Betty (Bird) Strandberg. Erik had lived in Lake County from the 1970’s, settled in Silver Lake in 1981, and was a graduate of Wilmot High School. Before having a severe stroke 9 1/2 years ago, he had worked at Red Lobster, TGIF Fridays, Jobs Printing & Mailing, Surgipath Medical, and as a flight attendant for Great Lakes Aviation Ltd. He loved: cooking, gardening, Chicago, Lake Michigan, Longboat Key, FL, Hayward, WI, and most of all his many friends and family.
He will be so missed by: his loving parents: Betty (Jim) Schmalfeldt of Silver Lake, WI and Erik Linden (Jackie) Strandberg of Madison, FL; two sisters: Kristi Strandberg and Kathy (Dave) Peregrin both of Grayslake, IL; a brother Jim (Kellene) Strandberg of Silver Lake, WI; Step-brothers: Don (Karen) Schmalfeldt and Brian (Kim) Schmalfeldt both of Burlington, WI; seven nieces, five nephews, and aunts: Barbara Ironside of Silver Lake, WI Anne Bird of Elgin, IL and his dear friend, Collette Wilson. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: Jim and Alice Bird and Elmer and Elsie Strandberg, and an uncle Robert Bird.
Memorial Visitation will be held from 4PM until 8PM Monday January 16, 2012 at the STRANG FUNERAL HOME OF ANTIOCH 1055 Main St. (Rte. 83) Antioch, IL 60002, with a Memorial Service at 7PM. Interment of ashes will be in Salem Mound Cemetery, Silver Lake, WI. In lieu of flowers, donations to a family memorial are appreciated.
